History of St Helena
With over 500 years of historical significance, the island’s geological position was an important point controlled by the British Crown. Its forts and lookout points can still be explored, many with cannons and guns still in place. The island was also home to French Emperor, Napoleon.
Sea Life
St Helena’s warm oceans offers a variety of marine activities such as diving, snorkelling and has a vast amount of marine species, with whale sharks visiting the island between December and March. It is possible to snorkel with whale sharks, under the guidance of accredited local marine tour operators.

Activities

Jacob’s Ladder
Reconstructed in 1871, Jacob’s Ladder’s 699 steps climbs 600 feet from Jamestown up to Half Tree Hollow.

Jonathan the Tortoise
Situated at the Plantation House, Jonathan the Tortoise is estimated at 188 years old – the island’s oldest resident!

Golf
St Helena’s nine-hole course is played twice with two different tee placements for each hole. Visitors are made very welcome and clubs can be hired.

Hiking
St Helena’s picturesque landscape with breath-taking views is a paradise for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Tungi
Made from the prickly cactus pears, Tungi is a clear, smooth spirit produced by the island’s distillery.
